Why I know I can help

In short, because I know what it's like to feel stuck in a rut, feeling under appreciated, overworked and ready for a change, but not sure where to start.

I know what it's like for work and responsibilities to consume you.  One day I pulled on my 'fat jeans' and, holy hell, they were tight! How did this happen?  I wanted to get back to my former weight (maybe finally tone!).  I wanted a path that could get me back to me, but didn't have a clue where to start never mind finish. 

Hi! I'm Melissa Hart, a health coach and fitness instructor plus have a corporate, hectic, day job (not to mention a spouse, 5 year old son, dog and a fish, lol).  I definitely know busy and have been helping women like you who need a simple way and a (gentle) shove to get back on-track. 

Cliche´ as it is, if I and over 100 of my clients can make it work, I know you can too!

My Story

I had become 'skinny fat'.  I gained a few pounds or so every year  (damn that office desk job!). Plus some extra wiggle in my middle after having my son.  I looked fairly slim, but was out-of-shape and over the years had gained a couple sizes. :(

Mornings were a nightmare. I was totally that crazed person rushing around just to get out the door. Going to Starbucks for coffee and breakfast (grande white chocolate mocha latte with a sausage, cheddar & egg sandwich, please!). 

Lunch was always rushed (or skipped) as I put work first. A sandwich, chips and a large coke were my go-to.

Working insane hours at my corporate gig, I wanted to just plop down and veg out on TV when I got home.  No energy to even think about working out. Forget waking up early to make lunch or exercise.  Not happening. Between checking email and getting out-the-door I had a general 'tomorrow' attitude and a bulging muffin top to show for it.

This wasn't what I wanted for me and I wasn't sure what to do.

I knew I wasn't interested in a gym membership. I was over the rushing to get a spot in the group class. I had no clue how to use the machines except for that thigh machine, but the spread eagle pose was awkward (and plain embarrassing) as hell.  The treadmill and elliptical machines bored me. The gym had become a scene.  More of a place to go to be seen.

As a working mom I wasn't trying to take more time away from being with my son either.  Plus, I drove right on past the gym before I had him.  Not like that was gonna change now.

I took a stand and made a change.  I was done with feeling powerless to control my own time and needs.  Tired of being tired. 

So I started my new adventure with simple 30-minute workouts that I did in my living room.  I did them mostly at night after I got home and put my son to bed.  It would make for a late night, but I was used to those anyway and determined to do this for me. On weekends I'd do them when he napped or played near (or on/under) me.  After a few weeks, I was pumped to do them and would wake up before everyone and get it in before the madness started. 

I didn't do anything radical.  I didn't count calories or weigh food. No strict food no-nos. I had a glass of wine a few times a week and carbs too. Just not tons like before. I didn't give up chips forever either.

I added a shake for breakfast to replace my unhealthy Starbucks morning ritual. Super quick to make and drink on the go. I've learned so much about what to eat, how much of it and when.  It's a legit lifestyle change not a diet.  I like a little variety, but simplicity and routine win out every time. 

So did it work?  Hell yea!  I'm more fit (I can do push-ups and hold a plank for a minute and a half, y'all!), lost 12 pounds, tightened up the jiggly and dimply bits, have more energy, less stress, and am rocking my clothes.  Am truly happier and actually more productive and focused.  Some bonus side affects:  my skin is clearer, my hair is longer and doesn't break as easily anymore, my nails are tougher and grow longer too.  

I'm a better mom, spouse and general person. All around win-win.

How This Will Work

This program is about getting back on-track and seeing results.  It's about incorporating simple, repeatable actions every day to kick ass and take names. Nothing extreme. In our time together, we're going to focus on four (4) core strategies to make real progress:

  1. Dialing in your nutrition. The key to feeling better and looking great is mostly nutrition. We will relearn the basics and put them into action. Small steps.

  2. Daily exercise. But, yes, you WILL workout. :) You want lose weight - but also get stronger, increase your endurance and flexibility, right? Yes. You do. Going from drowning in work and responsibilities to conquering your goals will require moving your body more and getting that sweaty glisten going.

  3. Accountability and support. Most folks going it alone stop too soon; right before the results start showing and hit their groove. It's not because they don't have the right tools. It's support. Sometimes the 'haters' are in your family, sometimes it's friends or co-workers, sometimes it's you! Some people won't get it. That's okay. You won't be doing this alone. You'll have me and the others in our private Facebook community to keep you motivated.
